A 40 day devotional to the Jesus fast
Day 1. WHY?
As you have taken this mighty decision to partake in this fast, I would like to ask you to take a quick MOT, as it were.
When you are about to take a long journey, be it in a car, or plane, or to any destination, you wouldn’t dream of going away without first doing some basic checks. You would check that you have a full tank, the tires are ok, the oil is changed, the right clothes are packed, tickets are purchased and your passport is valid. I think you get the drift.
Likewise, entering into this fast isn’t for the faint hearted, it will be a journey of highs, lows, battles and accomplishments, but none of which should deter you.
Everyone who makes the decision to join the Jesus fast will have their own particular reasons, all I ask is that, in this day, you write it down and make it plain. (Habakkuk 2:2-3)
So, when battles arise you can refocus on that in the coming days ahead.
Just as John the Baptist had many followers and fasted like him. Being followers of Christ is similar, we are CALLED to follow suit.
Notice I said ‘called’. Yes, that right! Jesus said not ‘if’ but ‘shall’ (Matt 9:15) it’s an assumption that we will follow in his footsteps, if we want to be like him in all his ways.
With this in mind, I would like you to get in the right heart posture. 'What better a person than David' as God said, a man after my own heart. (Acts 13:22)
Daily manna to meditate on for today……
Search me O God and know my heart; try me and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked ways in me and lead me in the way everlasting. Psalms 139:22-23
Examine me, O lord and prove me. Try my mind and my heart. Psalms 26:2
Food for thought…..
How is your heart? Is there anything that you need to declare before you commence this fast and lay at his feet?
