Scripture Focus:
“The arrogance of man will be brought low and human pride humbled; the Lord alone will be exalted in that day.”
— Isaiah 2:17

Reflection
Do you think highly of yourself when others fail to meet the same level of success or achievement? Pride is a subtle yet powerful enemy of the soul. It builds barriers between us and God, convincing us that we no longer need to depend on Him daily.

But Scripture reminds us: “God’s thoughts are not our thoughts, neither are His ways our ways” (Isaiah 55:8). Pride distorts our view of who God is, but humility restores it. The more we know God—His love, mercy, and grace revealed in Christ—the more clearly we see our need for Him (John 17:3).

The question during this fast is simple: How do you overcome pride when it challenges your loyalty to God? The first step is recognizing it in your life.

9 Signs of Serving with a Prideful Spirit

  1. Prayerlessness — Believing you can live without God (1 Samuel 12:23; Luke 18:1).
  2. Self-Reliance — Exalting self above God (Proverbs 26:12).
  3. Concealing Sin — Hiding instead of confessing (Proverbs 3:5-6).
  4. Arrogance — A heart that exalts itself (Proverbs 16:18; 21:24).
  5. Fear — Pride fuels anxiety and doubt (Matthew 14:31).
  6. Ingratitude — A sense of entitlement (Romans 3:23; Luke 22:26).
  7. People-Pleasing — Seeking man’s approval above God’s (Colossians 3:22).
  8. Hypocrisy — Outward appearance masking inward corruption (Matthew 23:25-28).
  9. Rebellion — Resisting God’s authority (1 Samuel 15:23).

The Call to Humility
The way forward is clear: embrace humility. Confess, renounce, and repent of pride, trusting God to forgive and cleanse you (1 John 1:9). Shift your focus by meditating on God’s Word and learning to centre your thoughts on Him instead of yourself.

Be like Jesus, who:

  • Humbled Himself in service (Philippians 2:3-8).
  • Came not to be served, but to serve (Matthew 20:26-28).
  • Set an example of humility for His disciples (John 13:14-15).

Today, ask the Lord to search your heart:
“Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting” (Psalm 139:23–24).

Prayer
Father, I repent of the pride that has hardened my heart. Forgive me for resisting Your Spirit and serving with selfish ambition. I surrender to Your authority and ask for Your mercy to deliver me from rebellion. Teach me to walk in humility, following the example of Christ, my Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection Question
What area of your life is God asking you to humble yourself in today?
