From the very beginning of time, man has continued to cheat on God with idols. God’s adulterous people are persistent in breaching his trust by violating his divine commands. It must really pain God to sees us lusting after things, when he made us to worship and glorify him. Yet, we continue to turn our face from him and seek objects and other people to gratify ourselves instantly. Paul Washer quite rightly says that God is not like a microwave, where you can go to him and just have things in an instant. God is an agriculturalist, he plants, he weeds, roots out, ploughs, tends to, and waters. Anything that gives you instantaneous satisfaction is more than likely from the devil. Unfortunately, this generation of people, have become so sophisticated that anything that they have to wait on, or really spend time upon, we give up on, if we don’t see instant results.

God is always working, even when we don’t see that he is working, changing, developing, moulding and shaping us. Sometimes by trying to speed up the process of maturation, we can do more harm than good. We end up causing ourselves to repeat the process from the beginning again and again. Gods timing is perfect (2 Peter 3:8). Learn to trust and put your faith in the process. I know we can get caught up in wanting to see what the end looks like, but one thing I’ve learnt from experience is, that you can always think that something is going to go one way, and then God will flip the script. By God doing this, it helps us to continue to seek and depend on him as we should and not lean on our own understanding. (Proverbs 3:5) As believers we can easily be ensnared to do things our own way; we can make ourselves idols out of relationships, music, our career, our children and as a result, pride can easily sneak up on us all. This is why, it is always good to check yourself. (James 4:8)

Our God is a jealous God. He loves us so much that he does not want to share us (Exodus 20:5). I love how the Lord describes us as his bride and he as the groom. This illustration really gives us a beautiful visual of the covenant he holds so deeply for us. He paid a mighty price for our hand. We must act like a bride would towards her husband. Honour him, respect him, keep ourselves pure, spend time with him and love him even when we don’t understand why things go the way they go. He is the head and we are his body. All things must work together to function well and in turn they will be complete.

Daily manna to meditate on……..

”Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.“ James 4:4 NKJV

”thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;“ Exodus 20:5 KJV

”For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.“2 Corinthians 11:2-3 KJV

”Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. “James 4:8 NKJV
