I heard a great saying the other day, and I would like to share it with you. It goes as follows: if you are waiting on Jesus, do what waiters do, and serve. Jesus is the ultimate example of how we need to humble ourselves and serve (Isa 42.1-9).
God loves humility, especially a humble heart that compels him to act on our behalf. I have noticed that when we are in trials, we can sometimes focus all our attention on ourself. But what we often fail to realise is that, It is a true blessing when you take your mind off of self, and serve. We must remember that there is always someone worse off than you, praying for the very place you're at.
Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ said ”Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”(Mark 10:43-45). Powerful words!! He demonstrated his servanthood by the many acts he did during his three year ministry. One scene that stands out in particular, is the washing of the disciples feet (John13:14-15). In biblical times, to wash a person’s feet was one of the lowest task of a household servant. Jesus did this to show his humility and love towards his followers. My prayer for you today is, that you too may do this for others, in Jesus name.
It may not cost you anything to call or check in with someone. So why don’t you go the extra mile for a colleague at work, or put yourself out for anyone, even a stranger. You never know, you could be encountering an angel (Hebrews 13:2). For the Bible says ”And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men,“(Colossians 3:23)
So brothers and sisters, let us not use this time in the fast as a ‘check in’ service, where we just come in to receive and take away (Philippians 2:3) . Instead, let us continue to humble ourselves, just like our King Jesus did while he was here on earth. It should be our desire that many will see Jesus in us, compelling them to know the God that we serve.
Daily manna to meditate on…
”Behold, My Servant shall deal prudently; He shall be exalted and extolled and be very high.“ Isaiah 52:13 NKJV
”Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.“ Philippians 2:4 NKJV
”And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient,“ II Timothy 2:24 NKJV
”No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the Lord.“ Isaiah 54:17 NKJV
Food for thought…..
What could you do today to show a servant's heart? Remember whatever you do, do as if you were doing it unto the Lord. Amen.
