Scripture Focus
“But without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.”
— Hebrews 11:6

Reflection

What type of Christian are you? Are you one who simply believes in God, or one who truly believes God?

At first glance, this may look like the same thing — but there is a difference. The first type of Christian has intellectual assent: they know a lot about God, they read Scripture, they may even attend theology school or speak eloquently about faith. Yet, for all their knowledge, they lack intimacy with God. To them, He remains an idea, a concept, rather than a Father. Sadly, this often leads to disillusionment, disappointment, and even bitterness toward the very God they studied but never knew.

The latter type of Christian, however, does not just know facts about God but trusts in Him personally. They believe in the God of the Bible, not as theory, but as their living source of life. Their faith rests in relationship, not only in head knowledge.

Believing in God Should…

  • Be our default mindset — In Genesis 3, Eve’s initial response to the serpent reflected her belief in God’s word.
  • Be the foundation of our relationship — “Without faith it is impossible to please Him” (Hebrews 11:6).
  • Lead us to believe in Jesus Christ — “The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being” (Hebrews 1:3).
  • Bring forth revelation — Through Jesus, God reveals Himself to us (Hebrews 1:1–2; John 14:9–11).
  • Teach us to honour Christ — “Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him” (John 5:23).
  • Surpass the faith of demons — “You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder” (James 2:19).
  • Command full commitment and transformation — True belief produces a changed life, not just religious words.

Personal Challenge

So, what type of believer are you? If you find yourself leaning toward the first description — knowing about God but not truly knowing Him — today is an invitation. Step closer. Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. Intimacy with Him will transform your faith from information into revelation.

Scriptures to Meditate On

  • John 17:3 — “Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.”
  • Jeremiah 9:23–24 — “Let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight.”
  • 2 Peter 3:18 — “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.”

Prayer

Father, I desire to know You, not just in my head but in my heart. Deliver me from shallow faith that only knows about You. Teach me to walk in intimacy with You, to trust You in every situation, and to honour Jesus Christ as Lord of my life. May my belief not be empty words, but a faith that transforms my actions, my thoughts, and my whole being. Today I commit to grow in Your grace and in true knowledge of who You are. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection Question

Do you only know about God, or do you truly know Him in a way that shapes your daily choices, thoughts, and actions?
