Standing upon the promises of God

During this fast, you may find yourself reflecting upon God’s promises for your life and family. You may be wondering why the promises of God for your life is tarrying? Or maybe, you are reflecting upon what God has called you to do? Where he has positioned you, and who he has called you to walk with. God’s words matter because God matters. As a believer you should want to know what God thinks about your life and how you live it out? You should desire his desires and align your will with his will for his divine plan and purpose for mankind.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.” Isaiah 55:8

When you take a look at scripture you will see that God’s promises will never contradict his character, neither will it defy his divine will and his mind concerning humanity. For example: 2 Corinthians 1:20 says: For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.

There is a security found in God’s promises and that security rests in your knowledge of who God is and what he is willing to do to save humanity from the condemnation of sin and death. God is steadfast and faithful concerning his word. Humanity on the other hand are not. We have repeatedly fallen short of God’s glory (Romans 3:23). However, this need not be so anymore, thanks to Jesus. As born again believers in Christ, we can depend upon the Holy Spirit to help us change our response to God’s promises. So, here are some steps you can take towards standing upon the promises of God.

  • Know God. (strengthen your relationship with him by cultivating a personal and intimate connection with him) Hosea 4:6, John 17:3
  • Know the promises of God as you actively seek and study his word .
  • Know the conditions of the promise . Oftentimes believers memorise the scriptures and fail to acknowledge the conditions that activate the promise. The failure to know the conditions of the promise may be the reason why the promise tarries.
  • Believe in God’s words and hold them as truth, even when it appears that God has broken his promise. God is not a man that he will lie, he will not break his promise ( Numbers 23:19).
  • Pray

To truly stand upon the promises of God you must be a practitioner of the word of God. Yes, that is right! You must practice what the word of God says you should do. God wants you to align with his divine will by engaging with his word, meditating upon it, believing it and then declaring it over your life, situation and environment. You must engage with the word of God. Just like you have a relationship with God the Father. God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

Today, in day 5 of this fast, I would like to encourage you to intentionally stand upon the promises of God, for your life. Remember, God’s promises will not work for immoral motives and intentions. Misappropriating the promises of God to get what you want, won’t work. God’s promises align with his thoughts, his will and his desires. Today, I want to challenge you. Why don’t you start your day standing upon Matthew 6:33 and watch the Lord assist your spiritual growth. You will not regret it.

Father Lord, as I yield myself under your divine will and plan for your kingdom reign here on earth. I come to you asking that you fulfil your promises in my life. Today as I engage your word with unwavering faith, Lord, I thank you for being mindful of me. You are worthy of all praise, in Jesus name. Amen.
