Reflection

Hunger is one of the greatest yet most challenging gifts God has given us. As you continue in this fast, the pangs of physical hunger may intensify, tempting you to stop. But let your hunger redirect you to the true purpose of this fast—to become more like Jesus, the righteousness of God (2 Corinthians 5:21).

Believers who hunger and thirst for righteousness pursue God above all else, aligning with Matthew 6:33. In turn, God satisfies their deepest needs:
“For He has satisfied the thirsty soul, and the hungry soul He has filled with what is good.” (Psalm 107:9).

Hunger teaches dependence on God. As Moses reminded Israel:
“He humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna… that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but… by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.” (Deuteronomy 8:3).

True satisfaction is not found in food, but in Christ—the Bread of Life (John 6:33–35). Through Him we find abundant life that knows no lack (John 10:10).

Repentance is key to experiencing this filling. Sin separates us from God (Isaiah 59:2), dulls our hunger for Him, and blinds our spiritual appetite. Yet when we repent, God restores our hunger and satisfies us with Himself.

Steps to Pursue Righteous Hunger

  1. Acknowledge your weakness — let hunger drive you to depend on God, not self.
  2. Repent daily — clear the barriers that sin creates between you and God.
  3. Seek Christ above all — desire His Lordship, not just relief from physical discomfort.
  4. Feed on the Word — let Scripture be your daily bread.
  5. Obey God’s commands — this is the whole duty of man (Ecclesiastes 12:13).

Scriptures to Meditate On

  • Proverbs 16:26 — “A worker’s appetite works for him, for his hunger urges him on.”
  • Proverbs 10:3 — “The Lord will not allow the righteous to hunger, but He will reject the craving of the wicked.”
  • John 6:35 — “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.”

Prayer

Lord, all I desire is You. In this fast, I hunger for Your presence and long to see Your face. According to Your Word in Proverbs 10:3, You will not allow the righteous to hunger. I repent of every sin, known or unknown, and yield myself under the cleansing power of Jesus’ blood. Reign in the inner parts of my life and fill me until I want no more. Amen.

Reflection Question

How is your spiritual hunger shaping your relationship with God, and what step can you take today to seek Him more deeply?
