The need for revival.

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7

How many times have you kicked yourself for not resisting the devil? Not resisting temptation? not just saying NO! It is so sad to see fervent believer’s repeatedly drift away from God as they are lured away by temptation. To be backslidden, weak, despondent and lifeless, is not a state a believer fell into by accident. This spiritual state that they have found themselves in came because they drifted away from God and entangled themselves in a habitual sin, and now they are in need for a revival. So what is revival? Revival is when a believer in their lifeless spiritual state encounters a fresh outpouring of the life-giving Spirit of God. God because of his love for them, revives their soul back to life by convicting them of their sin (s). The believer repents of their sins and decide to live for God in order to be revived.

Seeking a Revival – Look no further than the Voice of the Holy

“For who is there of all flesh, that has heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of fire as we have, and has still lived?” Deuteronomy 5:25.

One thing I love about God’s word, is that his word when released into the lives of his people, becomes a catalyst for revival and a spiritual awakening. Think about it for a minute. When the transforming virtue of God’s word enters your life, his words are revealed to be the light that enlightens your mind, the truth that convicts your heart and the commandment that humbles your soul. God uses his Word to transform your soul into the image of Jesus, by subduing your will to his (Romans 8:29).

When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!”

And Moses said, “Here I am.”

“Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” Then he said, “I am the God of your father,[ the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.” At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.

The Lord said, “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey—the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. And now the cry of the Israelites has reached me, and I have seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing them. So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.” Exodus 3: 4-10 NIV

Take a look at Exodus 3: 4-8 again, did you notice that God in his holiness, told Moses that he was standing on holy ground? Have you considered that God’s holy presence caused Moses to turn towards him and listen to his voice and obey? Ponder upon this scenario again. Just before his burning bush encounter, Moses murdered a man, and then tried to cover up his sin, the children of Israel on the other hand became bound in slavery. So what does God do to deliver his people from out of their oppression and sin? He speaks. The voice of Holiness brings you back to the light of God’s eternal life. His voice leads us back to who our human existence is all about: the Eternal Spirit of God and his Son Jesus Christ.

The Holiness of God and you

Now that we are aware of God in his holiness and how his holy words can deliver a man from his corruption, let us look at you. Your walk with God. It is ok to admit that you have erred, been distracted or gone lukewarm in your faith, providing you are willing to repent from the lifestyle, action and speech that led to you not seeking God as you used to. Personal holiness the biblical way requires you to put sin to death in your life by you choosing to yield your life to be led by the Spirit of the Lord. You repent by choosing God’s way over any other way of living. You allow the Holy Spirit to transform your character so it reflects the character of Christ that God desires to be in you. Personal holiness will cause you to be undefiled by sin and separated from sinners, because you have chosen to allow yourself to be consecrated unto the Holy Spirit of the Lord (Hebrews 7:26). You are saved not because of your works, but by grace through faith in Christ Jesus ( Ephesians 2:8-9).

Now, don’t get me wrong, no believers life is not without challenge. Temptation will come, sinners will try to entice you to partake in their sin. But this does not give you a free pass to emulate their ways. Psalm chapter 1 gives you counsel to help you stay alive towards God. As a believer, you are advised to delight in his words, refrain from wrong company and understand that the Holy Spirit will transform your life the more you fellowship with him. So today, why don’t you take this opportunity to open the word of God and begin to listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit of God as you meditate upon scripture. Allow him to refine your character as he washes you with pure refining words of truth, that will break up the active works of sin and the flesh. Pray and converse with your heavenly Father. Take that next step with God and allow him to lead you into the raw revival power of his presence that changes the lives of his people who have fallen from grace. I assure you once you submit fully under the governance of his voice, your life will never be the same again.
