If you’re new to the Christian faith, one of the most important—and life-changing—questions you’ll ever explore is: Who is Jesus?

Who is this person I just gave my life to?

Your faith in Jesus requires more from you than just following rules and joining a church. At its core, it’s about a relationship with a person—Jesus Christ. So let us take a look at who He truly is and what that means for you now as a new believer.

Jesus Is the Eternal Son of God ( John 3: 16-17, Matthew 3: 17, 17:5)

In scripture Jesus is called a carpenter ( Mark 6:3, Matthew 13: 55) and a prophet ( John 1:21, John 4:19, Matthew 21:46 ), The title by which He is most widely recognised is the Son of God . He is the Eternal Son of God, sent to earth with a divine purpose. In John 1:1 and 14, we’re told that Jesus is the Word who was with God and was God, and that He became human to live among us.

As the Son of God, Jesus God’s perfect unending love, character, and truth is revealed to you. If you want to know what God is like—look at Jesus.

Jesus Is Your Saviour ( Luke 2: 10-11 )

The heart of the Christian message is this: Jesus came to save us. Romans 3: 23 tells us that everybody is born into sin—separated from God and unable to bridge this divide on their own. John 14: 6 says that nobody can come to the Father except through Jesus. Jesus lived a sinless life, he died on the cross to take the punishment for your sin, and rose again to offer you new life (Romans 5:8, 1 Peter 3:18).

As your Saviour, Jesus has forgiven your past, given you peace with God, and secured your eternity.

Jesus Is Lord of Your Life ( 1 Corinthians 8: 6, Philippians 2: 11)

Salvation isn’t just about being forgiven and then going to church—it’s about living under a new kind of leadership. In the Bible, "The lordship of Jesus" refers to the authority, sovereignty, and mastery of God, expressed through the life of Jesus. When you made the decision to follow Jesus, you agreed to trust Him to lead your life, your choices, direct your growth, and lead your future (Luke 9:23).

Making Jesus your Lord means choosing His way ( no matter how difficult life gets) over your own. As you do this, you will learn how to obey Him out of love and gratitude.

Jesus Is Your Friend and Companion ( John 15:13)

As you begin your walk with Jesus you will discover that he is not as distant as you initially thought he was. Jesus calls you friend (John 15:15) He promises to be with you always (Matthew 28:20). Jesus is so invested in your well-being that he listens when you pray, comforts you when you’re hurting, and gives you strength when you’re weak.

He wants you to know that you are never alone—He is Emmanuel, “God with us.”

Jesus Is the Way, the Truth, and the Life ( John 14: 6)

In a world that’s always changing and getting darker, Jesus stays the same — he is your anchor. He said in John 14:6, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Jesus is your connection to God, your source of truth, and your guide into a full and eternal life.

Where Do You Go From Here?

As a new believer, your journey with Jesus is just beginning. Why don’t you start by getting to know Him more through:

  • Reading the Bible (Start with the Gospel of John)
  • Talking to Him in prayer
  • Connecting with a Bible-believing church
  • Learning alongside other believers

Final Thought

Jesus is not just a religious figure from history—He is alive, present, and actively working in your life.

As Christians believe:

  1. He was born of the Virgin Mary (by the power of the Holy Spirit) – Matthew 1:18.
  2. He lived a sinless life, taught about love, forgiveness, mercy and the Kingdom of God – 1 John 3:5.
  3. He was crucified, died, and rose from the dead on the third day. - 1 Thessalonians 4: 14)
  4. His death and resurrection were to forgive humanity’s sins and restore the relationship between people and God. – 1 John 1: 7

Jesus loves you, he desires to lead you, and he invites you to grow in relationship with Him every single day.

Reflection Question:

Now that you know who Jesus is, how will you draw closer to Him this week in a real, personal way?
